New Mexico Works - TANF
New Mexico Works (NMW) is the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program that briefly assists families currently receiving public assistance benefits. The major purpose of the Works program is to facilitate the rapid entry of NMW clients into employment.
Unless exempted, adults receiving NMW cash assistance must work, get an education, job train, or volunteer to work with local organizations or carry out similar activities. The TANF participants must meet participation requirements in order to retain their benefits. Most adults must carry out these activities for at least 34 hours weekly.
New Mexico Works has contracted to assess, train, and place these participants in the employment sector.
