Plus and Minus: A plus (+) before a term requires that the term be present in the search results. A minus (-) before a search term omits records with that word from the search results. There should be no space between the + or - operator and the term to which it refers.
Boolean:
AND between search terms requires that both terms appear somewhere in the record.
OR requires that at least one of the adjacent terms appear in the record.
NEAR requires that the terms appear within two to twenty-five words of each other, depending on the search engine used.
NOT will exclude records containing the term from the search results.
Phrases: Terms enclosed in double quotes " " are searched as a single term by most search engines.
Case Sensitivity: Use lower case for search terms with the exception of proper names. Proper names are capitalized and separated by commas.
Stemming: To include variants or plurals of search terms, a wild card symbol (*) is added to the stem of the word. librar* would yield; library, libraries or librarian.
